Continuing on from the company's recent national and international successes, Druid (in association with the NASC group of venues) is currently on tour around Ireland until December 16th with the company's critically acclaimed production of the John B Keane classic The Year of the Hiker. Directed by Garry Hynes, the production features a stellar Irish cast including Sarah Greene, Mick Lally, Nick Lee, Garrett Lombard, Eleanor Methven, Aaron Monaghan and Catherine Walsh. The production will visit Tralee, Cork, Ennis, Letterkenny, Dun Laoghaire, Longford, Newbridge and Portlaoise. Described as 'a truly engaging piece of theatre' (The Sunday Business Post); 'nothing short of a gift' (The Irish Independent); 'an absorbing and at times electrifying theatrical experience' (The Sunday Times) and 'sophisticated, moving and richly theatrical' (The Irish Times), this production is the last in the Druid Keane Trilogy and follows Druid's awarded-winning productions of Sive (2002) and Sharon's Grave (2003). Not to be missed. Written in 1964, The Year of the Hiker marked a significant departure for Keane. Set in the sixties and shot through with yearning and regret for lost love Hiker contains some of Keane's most lyrical and tender writing. This extensive tour is presented in association with NASC, a network of seven venues across Ireland who joined forces in 2005 to identify and produce, co-produce or present high quality, audience-driven touring theatre in Ireland.
