'...uproarious comedy and gut-wrenching terror'. Druid kicks off 2006 with a cracking new play by one of Ireland's finest young playwrights. The Walworth Farce by Enda Walsh opens at Galway's Town Hall Theatre on Monday 20th March (previews Thursday 16th, Friday 17th & Saturday 18th March) before moving to Cork's Everyman Palace Theatre and then Dublin's Helix in April. Previous works by the award-winning Enda Walsh include The Small Things; Bedbound; Misterman and Disco Pigs. The production features Syan Blake, Denis Conway, Garrett Lombard and Aaron Monaghan and brings a new and exciting creative team to Druid - Director Mikel Murfi (director of Trad, hit show of the 2004 Galway Arts Festival and 2005 Edinburgh Fringe and soon transferring to the Bush Theatre in London), Designer Sabine Dargent and Lighting Designer Paul Keogan. IN THE WORDS OF THE GALWAY ADVERTISER: Walsh's script switches throughout between uproarious comedy and gut wrenching terror to create a potent and unique theatrical experience. A semi-deranged father Dinny lives in a high-rise London council flat with his two adult sons Sean and Blake, all of whom left Cork many years earlier. Under Dinny's tyrannical direction, the trio daily enact a crazy 'play' of his own devising which purports to reveal how and why he initially left Cork. Yet Dinny's farce is gradually shown to project a false version of events and dangerous shards of truth begin to puncture and destabilise his cherished fiction. This process is accelerated by the arrival on the doorstep of Tesco shop-worker Hayley, an unwitting visitor who quickly finds herself dragooned into Dinny's drama. Don't miss!
