In February of this year, Druid invited members of Belarus Free Theatre to come to Dublin for a public interview which was hosted in association with Theatre Forum and chaired by Fintan O’Toole. In what is a very exciting development for theatre audiences, this year’s Kilkenny Arts Festival will now present the first ever Irish performances from the acclaimed Belarus Free Theatre. They will present three productions that have received huge critical acclaim: Generation Jeans, Being Harold Pinter and Zone of Silence as well as an extraordinary addition to the programme of the European premiere of Discover Love. Belarus Free Theatre is a courageous underground theatre collective which seeks to promote regime change and democracy in Belarus by producing work by banned Belarusian playwrights in addition to plays by international writers and organising master-classes for young Belarusian writers and critics.
