| McDonagh Oscar | Druid today welcomed the Oscar for Martin Mc Donagh's film Six Shooter, noting the award was announced in the month of the tenth anniversary of the world premiere in Galway of The Beauty Queen of Leenane!br> Druid's Artistic Director Garry Hynes said she was delighted for Martin, for Irish theatre and for Irish film. In 1996, Druid premiered the debut work of Martin McDonagh in a co-production with the Royal Court - The Beauty Queen of Leenane opened in Galway in 1996 (as the Official Opening Event of the Town Hall Theatre) and subsequently played in London, Sydney, Dublin and on Broadway where the production won four Tony Awards, including Best Director for Garry Hynes, the first woman to win such an award. In 1997, Druid premiered (in co-production with the Royal Court) two other Mc Donagh works - A Skull in Connemara and The Lonesome West - for the critically acclaimed The Leenane Trilogy.
