20th January 2003 Garry Hynes won the Award for Best Director in the Irish Times/ESB Irish Theatre Awards 2002. Druid received nominations in four categories in the awards including: 1. Best Production: Druid Theatre Co for helping audiences rediscover why John B Keane's Sive deserves its classic status. 2. Best Director: Garry Hynes for her intelligent, emotionally detailed direction of Christian O'Reilly's The Good Father, and her bold recuperation of John B Keane's angry vision in Sive, both for Druid Theatre Company. 3. Best Designer: Set, Francis O'Connor for the well-chosen details evoking the arc of a domestic relationship for Christian O'Reilly's The Good Father, and for the rough realism of the counrty kitchen for John B Keane's Sive, both for Druid Theatre Company. 4. Best Designer: Davy Cunningham for turning the challenge of lighting the set of the Druid production of John B Keane's Sive only from the front into an atomspheric bonus. Druid founder member Sean McGinley was recently awarded the HP-sponsored NUI Galway Alumni Award for Literature, Communication and the Arts. |
