Druid's production of The Playboy of the Western World, directed by Garry Hynes, is being billed as THE highlight of the 2005 Perth Festival in West Australia in March. The Perth Festival, now in its 52nd year, is Australia's oldest international multi-arts festival. In 2005, it will present approximately 500 artists from 15 countries including U.K., France, South Africa, U.S.A, India, Brazil and Finland. The Druid production will be presented in His Majesty's Theatre, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, from Tuesday 1st until Sunday 6th March. Druid brought Martin Mc Donagh's The Leenane Trilogy to Sydney Festival in 1998 and Garry Hynes directed a Sydney Theatre Company production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane in 1999. Druid had a 'presence' in Australia earlier this year with the Hits Production extensive tour of Geraldine Aron's My Brilliant Divorce (a Druid commission). Druid previously visited Sydney Festival in 1995 with Vincent Woods' At The Black Pig's Dyke and in 1987 with The Playboy of the Western World.
