Previews for Druid's landmark tribute to John Millington Synge, one of the highlights of this years's Galway Arts Festival, commence Wednesday 29th June at Galway's Town Hall Theatre with performances of The Shadow of the Glen and The Playboy of the Western World. DruidSynge will open on Saturday 16th July, running on until Saturday 30th July and followed by performances in Dublin (Olympia Theatre, August), Edinburgh (King's Theatre August & September as part of the Edinburgh International Festival) and other locations to be announced. These classic Synge plays can be enjoyed as a series of double bills on consecutive days or as a really special festival experience when, on a limited number of dates, all six plays are presented on the same day. The unique day-long events (during which all of Synge's plays will be performed) begin at 2pm. Just two of the plays are full-length, with the remainder ranging in duration from thirty to ninety minutes. Food will be available at the Town Hall Theatre (during a ninety minute interval between parts 1 and 2) in the late afternoon on these days. There will be two other fifteen minute intervals before the performances end at 10.30pm. Directed by Garry Hynes, DruidSynge features a roll call of Irish acting talent including Marie Mullen, Mick Lally, Eamon Morrissey and Catherine Walsh alongside many of Ireland's finest emerging young stars including Aaron Monaghan and Gemma Reeves. Three of the plays were seen in Galway last year as part of the run up to DruidSynge but, because there have been cast changes and because the three are now being performed as part of the bigger project, audiences can expect quite a few differences in the shows. The DruidSynge double-bills are: The Shadow of the Glen & The Playboy of the Western World (total running time 2hrs 50 mins) The Tinker's Wedding & The Well of the Saints (total running time 2hrs 20 mins) Riders to the Sea & Deirdre of the Sorrows (total running time 2hrs 10 mins) DruidSynge (all 6 plays, but not in this running order) consists of: The Shadow of The Glen The Playboy of The Western World The Tinker's Wedding The Well of The Saints Riders To The Sea Deirdre of The Sorrows For Bookings Phone Town Hall Theatre, Galway +353-91-569777 Mon-Sat 10am to 7.30pm or phone Galway Arts Festival Box Office +353-91-566577 Mon-Sat 9.30am to 5.30pm or book online at www.galwayartsfestival.com Olympia Theatre, Dublin Tues 2nd-Sat 13th August (excl Sundays) Buy on line www.ticketmaster.ie (Telephone & internet bookings subject to booking fee) Tickets from Ticketmaster 24hr Tel 0818 719 300 (from Ireland); international callers should phone +353 1 4569 569 www.mcd.ie for exclusive live entertainment, news and tickets.
