The UK premiere of DruidSynge will be one of the highlights of the Edinburgh International Festival theatre programme this year. The 2005 Festival runs from 14 August to 4 September. Featuring all seven titles from the Synge canon, DruidSynge is a unique celebration of the life and work of one of Ireland's greatest writers John Millington Synge and will be the first time that all the plays have been performed together. DruidSynge will run at the King's Theatre from Saturday 27th August to Saturday 3rd September, including three opportunities to see a complete cycle of all the plays in one day. DruidSynge, directed by Garry Hynes, will premier in Galway in July as one of the highlights of the 28th Galway Arts Festival, followed by national and international performances including Edinburgh. The project involves a company of more than fifty personnel including thirty actors performing across the repertoire, designers, technical and support staff. Druid Artistic Director Garry Hynes said 'It is fitting that this landmark tribute to one of Ireland's greatest playwrights is featured in the programme of one of the world's greatest events, a festival which provides unique and world class experiences for audiences from Britain, Ireland and around the world. We are really looking forward to August in Edinburgh'. Druid recently returned from the Perth Festival in Australia, where it had a critically acclaimed run with its production of The Playboy of the Western World. |
