2009…a year to remember

Merry Christmas

As the year draws to a close, we’d like to THANK YOU for your support during what has been Druid’s busiest year yet and we’d like to wish you a peaceful and a happy Christmas and every good wish for the coming year.

2009 has most certainly been a year to remember with an unprecedented 360 performances of 6 productions in 5 countries including a sold-out three month off-Broadway run, a coast-to-coast tour of the USA, a trip down under to Perth, a national tour of Ireland and a national tour of the UK.

We thought we’d remind you of what we’ve been up to.

In 2009 Druid brought you…

Some of our own personal highlights were

  • Receiving a total of 9 US, UK and Irish awards for our production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh
  • Opening our newly refurbished theatre on Druid Lane with The Gigli Concert by Tom Murphy and subsequently bringing it on a national tour of Ireland
  • Embarking on a world tour of The Walworth Farce by Enda Walsh which continues into 2010 where it will play a 7 city tour of Australia and New Zealand
  • Touring a total of 6 productions and staging 5 of these at home in Galway
  • Bringing one of Ireland’s best known plays, The Playboy of the Western World by J.M. Synge on an extensive UK tour

2010 and beyond

We are very busy with and excited about our plans for next year and 2011 but, like everyone else we are waiting for news of our Arts Council grant in January before we can confirm these plans.

We will be announcing our plans in early February so for great theatre experiences in Ireland and abroad in 2010 WATCH THIS SPACE or join our mailing list and we’ll keep you posted.

Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the Druid team!
