DruidMurphy: Conversations on a Homecoming
County Galway in the 1970s and even the humble small-town pub can be a magnet for dreamers. Now in his 30s, and over a long drinking session on a winter’s evening, Michael – recently returned from New York after a ten year absence – has a reunion with old friends in “The White House”. He was the one member among them who got away to live the dream and now he’s back.
DruidMurphy: A Whistle in the Dark
It’s 1960 and Michael Carney is an Irish emigrant living in Coventry, England, with his new wife Betty. Michael has integrated well into English society, but the same can’t be said of his wild brothers who are lodging with him. Tensions boil over after the arrival of his father and youngest brother from home.
In 2012, Druid presented its most ambitious project to date. DruidMurphy – Plays by Tom Murphy was a major celebration of one of our most respected living playwrights and consisted of Conversations on a Homecoming, A Whistle in the Dark and Famine. DruidMurphy played to widespread critical acclaim in Ireland, the UK and the US. To read some of the reviews and interviews click here.
