DruidMurphy receives three prestigious Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards: Best Production, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress
DruidMurphy – Plays by Tom Murphy, directed by Garry Hynes, widely billed and lauded as the theatrical highlight of 2012, won Best Production at the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards on Sunday night. The Awards represent the best of Irish theatre in 2012. Aaron Monaghan took home Best Supporting Actor for his role as Liam in Conversations on a Homecoming while Marie Mullen won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Missus in the same production. Marie Mullen was also presented with the Special Tribute Award which acknowledged her contribution to Irish theatre. Garry Hynes led the tribute to Ms Mullen on the night.

Druid’s relationship with the great Tom Murphy goes back almost thirty years and this award is dedicated to all the people who have come through Druid and worked on Tom’s plays throughout those years. Together they have contributed to what has culminated in DruidMurphy and we bow before Tom Murphy, one of the great writers of our time.”
The New York Times described the three play DruidMurphy cycle as “epic theater making”, the Irish Times as “world-class” with The Daily Telegraph going on to say “attendance should be obligatory”.
In April Druid will present its biggest tour yet when DruidMurphy: Conversations on a Homecoming and A Whistle in the Dark will be performed in Galway, Tralee, Dublin, Portlaoise, Ennis, Letterkenny, Longford, Dún Laoghaire and Limerick. Supported by an Arts Council touring grant and presented in association with the NASC network of regional theatres, audiences can enjoy a rare opportunity to see two Tom Murphy plays in repertory, either on alternate evenings or in a double bill.
