Druid presented a very successful run of their critically acclaimed DruidSynge production of The Playboy of the Western World by J.M. Synge which formed part of the 2007 Tokyo International Arts Festival. The performances also marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Japan.
Tokyo International Arts Festival (TIF) is held annually with 2007 being the 13th anniversary of its history. TIF consists of three main programs, which are: Theatrical Program for local, international, and regional participants; The Communication Program, providing occasional theatregoers and theatre students the opportunity to learn more about the processes behind the curtains of a theatrical production; and The International Visitors’ Program, designed to build networks and share ideas between Japanese and international arts professionals.
Druid’s visit to Tokyo was supported by Culture Ireland and The Irish Embassy in Japan.
