Druid’s production of The Silver Tassie by Sean O’Casey will receive its US premiere at the 2011 Lincoln Center Festival in New York from July 24 – 31 as part of Imagine Ireland, an initiative of Culture Ireland. Imagine Ireland is an unprecedented celebration of Irish arts and the largest ever programme of Irish arts to be staged in the United States.

Among the theatrical highlights of Imagine Ireland are three Druid productions which will tour to the USA in 2011; The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh which will tour to nine US cities from February 2 to June 19th, Penelope by Enda Walsh which will run for three weeks at the Studio Theatre in Washington DC and The Silver Tassie.

Druid last toured to the Lincoln Center Festival in 2006 with its production of DruidSynge.

The Irish Minister for Culture Mary Hanafin and Cultural Ambassador for Ireland, actor Gabriel Byrne, are among those who attended the announcement of the full Imagine Ireland programme in New York on January 7, 2011.
