In the first half of 2011, Druid is touring three productions over thirty weeks to three countries – Ireland, the UK and the US. All three productions will tour to the US as part of Imagine Ireland, Culture Ireland’s year-long season of the Irish arts in America in 2011.
Here’s some info about the three tours:
- Between January and July 2011, Druid is touring three productions to 15 cities in Ireland, the UK and the US. The three productions will feature the work of writers, Martin McDonagh, Enda Walsh and Sean O’Casey.
- On St Patrick’s Day, Druid will present two productions in the USA; The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh will play at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and Penelope by Enda Walsh will play at the Studio Theatre in Washington DC.
- Kicking off on January 27th, Roscommon Arts Centre is the first of 16 theatres that Druid will tour to in the next 7 months and it is the first of 132 touring performances between now and July.
- Druid will also present The Silver Tassie by Sean O’Casey at the Lincoln Center Festival in New York this July. This is considered to be one of the world’s leading performing arts festivals which Druid last visited with DruidSynge in 2006. Three secondary school students from Galway, who secured parts through open auditions, Lara Connaughton, John Gaughan and Miriam Ward will be travelling with the professional actors to New York for the show.
Druid would like to acknowledge the continued support of the Arts Council in funding the company’s work and also the support of Culture Ireland in funding its international touring programme including the US tours.
