Druid presents Dermot Crowley and Dearbhla Molloy’s production of Give Me Your Hand

Give Me Your Hand is an evening of poetry by Paul Durcan inspired by paintings in the National Gallery of London.

Paul Durcan is one of Ireland’s leading poets, the author of the Whitbread Prize-winning “Daddy Daddy”. In his collection Give Me Your Hand, he has taken some of the most famous paintings in the world, and interpreted them with his own unique, poetic voice.

Two of Ireland’s most eminent actors, Dearbhla Molloy and Dermot Crowley invite you to join them for an imaginative stroll through the National Gallery, to discover afresh everyone from Van Gogh and Van Eyck, to Rubens and Gainsborough, through the unique prism of Paul Durcan’s imagination. The show has already enjoyed huge success in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Washington D.C. Galway audiences will have a rare opportunity to see the show in the intimacy of Druid Lane Theatre for two nights only.

You can visit the Give Me Your Hand website for more information.

Dermot Crowley and Dearbhla Molloy are currently on an extensive tour with Druid’s production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh and will be presenting this show while they are in Galway.

    US Reviews

While on tour in the US with Druid’s production of The Cripple of Inishmaan, Dermot Crowley and Dearbhla Molloy also presented Give Me Your Hand in Chicago, New York and Washington D.C. Below are just some of the comments the show has received. To read more reviews click HERE.

“There are many layers to “Give Mr Your Hand,” and they all work happily together. The National Gallery Portraits; the clever video editing, honing in on details; Paul Durcan’s witty and thought-provoking poems; their selection into a workable evening; and of course the vivid readings of Dermot Crowley and Dearbhla Molloy. I knew precious little about any of this going in, and I came out moved and pleased.”

    John Rockwell, writer and critic

“Give Me Your Hand is a sensational triple play — master paintings, brilliant poems, and outstanding performances by two of Ireland’s best actors. The result is magical.”

Cliff Sloan Skadden Arps; former publisher of Slate

“I will never look at paintings the same way again after hearing the witty poems of Paul Durcan performed by two brilliant and charming Irish actors as they bring the canvases to life.”

Mary Lou Hartman, documentarian and former Director of the George J. Mitchell Scholarship program

“If you’re one of those people who think poetry recitation for an hour would have to be boring — think again. Dearbhla Molloy and Dermot Crowley will wow you and leave you wanting more!”

    Trina Vargo, President, US-Ireland Alliance
