Tony award winner Garry Hynes directs members of the acclaimed Druid Ensemble Garrett Lombard, Aaron Monaghan, Rory Nolan and Marty Rea in ‘The freshest, funniest and most affecting production of the play in at least a quarter of a century’ – The Irish Times.
Druid’s invigorating interpretation of Beckett’s masterpiece premiered in the 2016 Galway International Arts Festival captivating both audiences and critics alike. The sell-out production then embarked on an Unusual Rural Tour of remote Irish locations, including Inis Méain and the Céide Fields, where it again played to capacity audiences.
‘Taking on a classic like Godot was a real challenge for me, the actors and the team. After playing to audiences in The Mick Lally Theatre, Inis Méain, the Céide Fields and Military Road we’re thrilled to now have the opportunity to perform in Dublin for a month-long run. We’re really looking forward to performing Beckett’s work again in 2017.’ said Artistic Director, Garry Hynes.
‘We wanted to start our first season on the Abbey stage by inviting in Irish artists, companies and shows we have long admired. A number of these shows have never been seen in Dublin and none of them at the national theatre. We were desperate to get Druid back on the Abbey stage and the timing of their amazing Godot, at GIAF ’16, felt like a gift. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should, and if you have seen it you should see it again.’ said Directors of the Abbey Theatre Graham McLaren and Neil Murray.
Dublin audiences will now have an opportunity to see this engaging new production, a theatrical tour-de-force from Ireland’s premier independent theatre company. Tickets are limited, so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Tickets on sale from Friday 2nd December.
Waiting for Godot tickets can be purchased via The Abbey Box Office: (01) 8787 222 or online www.abbeytheatre.ie
