Tickets for the much-anticipated Galway performances of the Druid production of DruidMurphy – Plays by Tom Murphy – will go on sale on Friday February 24th at 1pm at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway. DruidMurphy promises to be one of the theatrical highlights of 2012 and the largest touring project in Irish theatre in 2012.
This epic tale of emigration spans from 1846 to 1980 and is told through three of the greatest plays by Tom Murphy, Famine, A Whistle in the Dark and Conversations on a Homecoming. Directed by Garry Hynes, DruidMurphy is on tour in Ireland, the UK and the US and will be a major retrospective of one of Ireland’s most respected living dramatists.
Tickets for the Galway performances will be available from 1pm on Friday February 24th at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway on 091 569 777 or online at www.tht.ie. Audiences in Galway can see the production from May 23rd until Saturday June 9th or from July 23rd – 28th when it plays as part of Galway Arts Festival (one of the event co-producers).
DruidMurphy includes single performances of each of the three plays – Famine, A Whistle in the Dark and Conversations on a Homecoming – and the possibility to experience the entire cycle over the course of a day. The cycle day commences at 1.30pm and includes both an afternoon break and a dinner break, with the final performance ending at approximately 10pm. Tickets for the evening performances in Galway are priced from €18 and for the cycle day from €50.
This ambitious project will premiere in London as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Tickets for the London dates (June 20 – 30) and Oxford dates (August 18 – 25) are already on sale. In Ireland the production will tour within County Galway to Tuam, the Aran Islands and to Clifden, and to the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork. Further tour dates in the US and in Ireland will be announced in the coming months.
Druid would like to acknowledge the support of The Arts Council in funding this project and Culture Ireland for funding the international touring. Druid also acknowledges the DruidMurphy co-producers Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, Lincoln Center Festival, Galway Arts Festival and NUI Galway.
