Garry Hynes has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious 2008-2009 Joe A. Callaway Award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation for Outstanding Directing (the only award given by professional directors and choreographers to their peers) for the Druid and Atlantic Theatre co-production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh.
This production was last seen on tour in Ireland and the UK in 2008 and subsequently transferred to the Atlantic Theater in New York. The award recognises excellence in the craft of directing and considers all professional shows (with the exception of Broadway) produced within the five boroughs of New York City. This follows the 5 awards the production already received last May.
