The four artists selected for the FUEL 2016 Artist Residency programme are:
Little John Nee
Wildebeest Theatre
Liam McCarthy
Andrea Cleary
They will be participants in the FUEL artist mentorship programme and Associate Artists of the Mick Lally Theatre from October 2016 – June 2017.
Druid’s extended programme for FUEL 2016 cast the net for artists further than ever before. Applications were open to artists at all stages of their career, who are based in Galway, Mayo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Longford, Clare or Limerick.
Award-winning performer Little John Nee will develop a new performance which draws on his acclaimed storytelling and musical skills, while Wildebeest Theatre are set to explore the modern phenomenon of window shopping for soul mates through apps such as Tinder, which will involve technology and audience interaction. Liam McCarthy will develop a risqué farce exploring the boundaries of liberal ideas in modern society and Andrea Cleary will devise an experimental response to Irish society’s treatment of vulnerable people.
FUEL 2016 will run from October 2016 until June 2017 during which time artists will be provided with access to the Mick Lally Theatre, hot desk facilities during key development periods, creative workshops, mentor meetings and a stipend.
FUEL could not happen without the support of The Arts Council and St. Anthony’s and Claddagh Credit Union. Druid is very much looking forward to working with these fantastic artists. The standard of applications for FUEL was very high this year and we would like to thank everyone who applied.
