Aaron Monaghan as Cripple Billy in Druid’s award-winning production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh.
Druid has won two Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards for the Druid and Atlantic Theater Co-production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh. The MEN Theatre awards recognise excellence in live theatre in Britain.
The awards were:
- Best Visiting Production for The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh
- Best Actor in a Visiting Production – Aaron Monaghan for his performance as Cripple Billy
Druid also received nominations for Best Visiting Production and Best Actor in a Visiting Production (Michael Glenn Murphy) for its production of The Walworth Farce by Enda Walsh.
Tim Smith, Druid General Manager, accepted the awards at the Midland Hotel in Manchester where stars gathered for one of Manchester’s most prestigious showbiz events. These awards follow on from the five US theatre awards which The Cripple of Inishmaan received earlier in the year. Also, just last month director Garry Hynes won the prestigious Joe A. Callaway Award in New York for her direction of The Cripple of Inishmaan.
