The Chooky Brae is a comedy about love, duty and free-range fowl and is appropriately set around the festive season. It’s Christmas Day in Stewarton, Scotland, and Irene Gordon is struggling to get into the festive spirit. Her 18 year-old daughter’s had a baby, her ex-husband’s had a stroke and her eldest son’s having a break down. If this was a wonderful life she would receive angelic intervention — instead she gets pot, infidelity and an escaped chicken that won’t be stuffed.

Earlier this year, Garry Hynes met with DC Jackson when she directed a reading of The Chooky Brae for the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York. Druid is now looking forward to presenting the reading to a Galway audience. DC Jackson is a Glasgow based writer and The Chooky Brae is the third part of a trilogy of plays which includes The Wall and The Ducky. DC is currently under commission to the National Theatre of Scotland and is adapting The Marriage of Figaro for the Royal Lyceum Theatre.
