Druid Nominated in Five Categories in Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards 2017

This morning the Irish Times announced a list of nominees for this year’s Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards. Druid has been nominated in the following categories:

Best Actor
Marty Rea for his roles as Vladimir in Waiting for Godot and also for his role as Iago in Othello (Abbey Theatre)

Best Actress
Marie Mullen for her role as Mag in The Beauty Queen of Leenane

Aisling O’Sullivan for her role as Maureen in The Beauty Queen of Leenane

Best Supporting Actor
Rory Nolan for his role as Pozzo in Waiting for Godot

Best Director
Garry Hynes for both Waiting for Godot and The Beauty Queen of Leenane

Best Production
Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett

Both of Druid’s nominated productions will run in Ireland this spring: The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh returns to the Gaiety Theatre in March, while Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett runs at The Abbey Theatre this April before performing as part of Spoleto Festival USA.

This year’s special tribute award will go to Siobhán Bourke and former Druid MD, Jane Daly, in acknowledgement of their work with Irish Theatre Institute and their ‘long-standing commitment to Irish theatre.’

Druid extends its congratulations to all of this year’s nominees.
