Druid Celebrates St Patrick's Day in Two Major US Cities

Check out some photos from our visit to the US over St Patrick’s Day

Wherever you are in the world on March 17th, all of us at Druid would like to wish you a wonderful St Patrick’s Day.

We’ll be in the US with two shows; Penelope by Enda Walsh in Washington DC and The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh in Chicago.

Many of the fantastic events taking place across the US for St. Patrick’s Day are happening as part of Imagine Ireland, Culture Ireland’s year-long season of the arts in the US in 2011.

    Washington DC – Penelope

n Washington DC we kicked off New Ireland: The Enda Walsh Festival with our production of Penelope at The Studio Theatre where the opening night was met with a standing ovation.

Next month The Studio Theatre will also be presenting their own productions of Enda Walsh’s The Walworth Farce and The New Electric Ballroom as part of the Festival.

During our visit to Washington DC, Taoiseach Enda Kenny, met with a delegation of artists who were all taking part in events as part of Imagine Ireland. Druid was represented by Artistic Director, Garry Hynes, General Manager, Tim Smith, the cast of Penelope as well as writer, Enda Walsh, and director, Mikel Murfi.

Chicago – The Cripple of Inishmaan

In Chicago, we’re at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater from March 16 – 27. This is the fourth stop on our US tour – five more stops to go after this and next up is four weeks in LA!

During our run in Chicago, two of our cast members – Dermot Crowley and Dearbhla Molloy – will present their own show, Give Me Your Hand, which takes audiences on a virtual “stroll” through London’s National Gallery—discovering afresh the Museum’s masterpieces through the poetic imagination of Irish writer Paul Durcan. You can find out more HERE.

Druid would like to acknowledge the continued support of the Arts Council in funding the company’s work and also the support of Culture Ireland in funding its international touring programme.
