St Patrick’s Day at the White House and in Wellington

It’s a busy St Patrick’s Day for Druid and a special one at that. Wondering why…then read on.

Director, Garry Hynes is at the White House for a special St Patrick’s Day reception where she is a guest of The President and Mrs Obama. Garry is honoured to be representing Druid and Irish theatre at the White House and forms part of the official Irish delegation which also includes golfer Padraig Harrington, boxer Katie Taylor, writer Colm Tóibín and actor Gabriel Byrne, who was yesterday appointed Ireland’s first Cultural Ambassador.

The White House reception which is in honour of the Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, is the glittering culmination of the day’s events to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Meanwhile, Druid makes its debut in New Zealand with The Walworth Farce by Enda Walsh which continues its world tour at the New Zealand Arts Festival in Wellington. Druid has presented shows in Australia on a number of occasions but this is the company’s first visit to New Zealand.

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all at home and abroad.
